Sport

Sport plays an important role in the life of our children at St Bernard's, where they are all encouraged to reach their full potential in physical activities. Emphasis is placed on participation, sportsmanship and fair play.  In Key Stage 1 each class participates in a one hour PE lesson and one hour games lesson and in Key Stage 2 games increases to two hours.

Wide Range of Activities

Children are taught a variety of activities during their PE Curriculum to promote well-being and fitness. These activities include dance, gymnastics, athletics, ball skills, circuit training and small-sided games. All pupils take part in a full range of sports throughout the academic year. These include team sports such as rugby, football, netball, hockey, cricket and rounders. Coaching is provided by well-qualified and experienced staff. Pupils have every opportunity to learn new skills and to develop their talents.

Sports Fixtures

Our teams take part in a very busy local fixture list. These experiences are invaluable in forming bonds with their team mates and creating a healthy relationship with other schools.   We also attend a number of sports tournaments including football and netball.  For a full list of current fixtures and tournaments see below.  Parents are warmly invited to spectate at all matches.

Sports Days

Our annual sports day is held at Thames Valley Athletics Centre.  For more information click here.

Extra-curricular Sports

In addition to our curriculum provision we also have a wide range of extra-curricular sporting activities including judo, ballet, sports skills, streetdance and football. These clubs give children additional opportunities to pursue their interests and develop their skills.  For the full club list click here

Facilities

The school is fortunate to have its own expansive playing fields where we can host matches and sports festivals.  We have fields where we can play football and hockey and hard courts where we play netball in the winter and racket sports in the summer.  Inside we have a large hall where we have our PE lessons which include dance, gymnastics, fitness circuits and a variety of ball games.
