Dear Parents,

We hope you had a fantastic half-term break. Despite the not-so-friendly weather, we are thrilled to see all the children's bright faces back in the classrooms.

The teachers are ready with exciting new lessons and activities to keep one and all engaged and motivated throughout this term. We still have a very busy time ahead of us, even with shoehorning so much into this week.

We have all enjoyed Diwali celebrations and activities throughout the week as well as commemorating Remembrance Day.

Trans K Liturgy - All Saints

On Wednesday, the talented pupils in Trans K delivered a meaningful liturgy that celebrated the lives and contributions of all our Saints. From Saint Bernard to Saint Anthony, we honoured these extraordinary individuals who have helped to shape our history and inspired us to be the best version of ourselves.

Throughout the liturgy, there were poignant prayers, touching hymns, and reflective readings. It ended with a special moment where we thanked each saint by name for all the talents and gifts they have given to us.

Lower Trans U Remembrance Assembly

This morning, Lower Transition U led the school in an act of worship to mark Remembrance Day. The assembly was based on the importance of ‘remembering’. The children explained about Remembrance Day, the reason we wear poppies and the amazing work the British Legion do. They recited extracts from the poems, In Flanders Fields and For the Fallen. The assembly ended with the whole school observing a two-minute silence.

They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old:

Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.

At the going down of the sun and in the morning

We will remember them.

Remembrance Day Activities

Our fabulous pupils have come together to pay tribute to our brave heroes in the most heartfelt way. They have lovingly created beautiful poppies to decorate our stunning Tommy Sculpture in the Atrium.

Let's take a moment to appreciate the incredible work our children have put into this heartfelt project. Their creativity and dedication shone through each and every handmade poppy. Together, they have transformed our school into a vibrant symbol of remembrance and gratitude.  Please take a moment to admire their artistry, as they fill our school with love and respect during this Remembrance season.

This term in their history lessons, Remove have been diving deep into the history of WW1. They have been immersing themselves in the stories, facts, and emotions of this significant time in our nation's past.

To commemorate this important chapter, our talented children have designed and created their own stunning stained-glass windows, reflecting our collective gratitude towards the brave heroes who fought for our freedom. Year 5 also took part in this thought-provoking activity.

Each window tells a unique story, incorporating key symbolism and powerful imagery, reminding us of the many lives lost and the impact of this historical event.

Our students have poured their creative souls into each piece, meticulously bringing their visions to life with intricate detailing and vibrant colours. From soldiers marching through the fields to poppies blooming against a setting sun, these stained-glass windows truly capture the spirit and essence of Remembrance Day.

In Year 6, our children have been channelling their sewing skills to create beautiful poppies in preparation for Remembrance Day.

We believe it is important for children to not only remember the sacrifices made by those who fought for our freedom, but also actively participate in commemorating this significant day. Our Year 6 pupils have truly embraced this sentiment and poured their hearts into crafting their very own poppies.

By constructing these poppies from scratch, our pupils are learning valuable sewing techniques whilst developing a sense of respect and appreciation for our history. These handcrafted poppies serve as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by our servicemen and women.

500 Words Story Writing Competition

We have some incredible news to share, Pranay (Yr3), Myra (Yr3), and Jiya (Yr5), have entered the prestigious BBC 500 Words story writing competition!

This is a fantastic achievement, and we couldn't be prouder of their passion for storytelling. These talented children have put their creative minds to work, showcasing their imagination and writing skills in this national literary extravaganza.

Here are a couple of snippets from their entries:

"While I was hiding, I heard another growling sound which sounded like a Tiger. I froze like a stone as if blood stopped pumping in my body. I felt like this was my last day and I will never be able to see my family again." Pranay (Yr3)

"With dust particles gripping onto the ancient, navy blue leather-bound book with faded yellow pages, I blew with all the force I had. The gold engravings glistened in the dark with many strange symbols and shapes. Inside me, I had a feeling that this was not an ordinary book." Jiya (Yr5)

The year group with the most bottles will win an extended break-time! The Bottle line up is taking place on Monday 20th November, so please make sure your donations are in by then.

Many families within our school community will be celebrating Diwali - the festival of light, hope and the triumph of good this Sunday.

As we bask in the warm glow of Diwali, let's remember to take a moment to honour and pay our respects to the brave souls who fought for our freedom. This Diwali, let's keep Remembrance Day close to our hearts and minds.
