Dear Parents,

This week has been another whirlwind of hard work and dedication as our amazing Year 6 children focused on their SATs testing. We are incredibly proud of each and every one of them, for their resilience and determination.

From Maths to English and everything in between, they have shown true St Bernard's spirit and commitment to their studies. To celebrate this step in their academic journey they all enjoyed a hot chocolate with marshmallows this morning.

Year 6, your dedication and effort are truly inspiring. Remember, these tests are just a stepping stone towards your bright future ahead. Embrace each challenge with confidence and believe in your abilities. 

Year 1 trip to Black Park

This Monday, our curious Prep children had an amazing time at Black Park. They were thrilled to meet a knowledgeable ranger, who shared fascinating insights about the park's wildlife. 

The children had a blast comparing the lush rainforest to the enchanting woodland, discovering the diverse flora and fauna in each habitat. The ranger explained the different layers of the forest and the incredible wildlife that inhabits each level.

It was an enriching experience that sparked their love for nature and learning about the environment! Well done, Prep children!

Year 1 Science

This week, our Year 1 children have been enjoying the sunshine and getting hands-on in their Science lesson. They have planted beans as part of a special experiment and will be looking after them carefully to see them grow over the next few weeks. We wish our little botanical scientists good luck as they nurture their plants with love and care. What a fantastic opportunity to explore the wonders of nature and science together! (Act like king Charles and keep talking to those plants!)

Year 2

This week in Upper Prep the children travelled back to a time without smart phones and technology to learn about Alexander Graham Bell and his invention of the telephone. The children learnt about sound waves using a tuning fork and made their own paper cup telephones. 

Design and Technology

Year 1 

Prep have been designing and making their own pet homes. The children have kick-started their construction by making sturdy legs and a ramp for their furry friend's new home. Through this hands-on activity, the children have explored different shapes, sizes, and stability concepts. Mrs Gabb said it was wonderful to witness both the creativity and problem-solving skills of our amazing young thinkers.

Year 3 

Lower Trans children have just completed making their magnificent wooden frames. Now, they are using their science skills to create a simple circuit with a glowing light to enhance their frames.

It is great to see the children's creative ideas come to life with both craftsmanship and technology.

Year 4

Our Year 4 children, known for their creativity, have dedicated themselves to a special project. They have created a remarkable torch for their client, Max, who is embarking on a camping trip this weekend. With the fantastic work of our 'bright' young designers, Max will be well-prepared for his nighttime adventures!

In an enjoyable testing session in the dark, the children ensured their torches shone brightly, aiding Max in navigating through the wilderness. Mrs Gabb said she is incredibly proud of the children’s teamwork and innovative spirit!

Year 6

Remove have had great fun designing and making their ferris wheels. They have taken engineering to a whole new level by crafting their wheels out of wood and lollipop sticks. Once complete, these wooden wonders will be brought to life using crumble kits and a motor to give them that magical spin. 

Achievements:

Anya (Yr 4) participated in a challenging mud run event in Essex last Saturday and set up a Just Giving page for donations. Her initial goal was £200, but she surpassed it by raising £548 to support a charity that provides education for orphaned children in India.

Anuj and Shrey, (Yr 4), also completed the Spartan 3km obstacle race successfully. We are extremely proud of these children for their determination in finishing such a demanding race at such a young age.

Also a huge congratulations to Meva EY2 who received a a gold medal for gymnastics this week.
