Dear Parents,

As we adjust to the cooler temperatures this week, it has been heart-warming to witness our school community embracing kindness and generosity.

On Wednesday, Trans B delivered an incredibly inspiring Liturgy centred around St. John Henry Newman, highlighting the significance of serving others and spreading God's love. The service was beautiful, with all the children speaking clearly and sharing many fascinating facts about St. Newman.

A big thank you to all the families who joined us for our annual CAFOD breakfast. It was  fantastic to see so many of you, and it was a wonderful opportunity for us to come together, enjoy a meal, and engage in meaningful discussions.

Mrs. Biscardi has informed me that this morning’s Harvest Assembly was truly spectacular. The singing and dancing had the whole school rocking and Year 1 captivated everyone with a wonderful performance. Apparently, there was even a Mrs Verma Impostor present! I would like to say a special thank you for all your generous donations. They are greatly appreciated. I am delighted to say we have had more food donations than ever before. All collected items will be donated to the Slough Food Bank, bringing joy to those in need.

Upcoming Science Fair

We are also holding our first St Bernard’s Prep School science fair on Thursday 14th of November 2024. The children will be encouraged to complete a science-based task at home focused on any area of science that interests them. They will have a period of about 5 weeks (including half term) to complete their project.

They could research an area of interest and display their findings on a poster board; they might choose to complete an experiment (e.g. What happens to my heart rate when I play video games?) and show their investigation write up on their poster board; they might choose to create a model with an explanation, including some history of the theory on their poster board (e.g. A model of an atom).

All of these projects will then be displayed together and parents will be invited in to attend the showcase. There will be prizes and awards for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place for KS1 and for KS2.

A great way to create your poster is to follow the plan below on the last image.

Wellbeing Weekend Wisdom

This week was the annual celebration of World Mental Health Day. World Mental Health day was on the 10th of October. Mental health can be a difficult topic to talk about, but giving each other space to feel and discuss any emotions can do the world of good. If you are feeling worried or anxious about talking to your child about mental health, then the charity Young Minds has some great resources for you and for your child.

YoungMinds | Mental Health Charity For Children And Young People | YoungMinds

As we all start to discuss and talk about mental health more, we hope to see a real boost to the children’s wellbeing and understanding of their emotions and feelings.

U10 +U11 Netball vs Langley Hall

Last week our U10s and U11s played netball against Langley Hall. All of our teams put up a good effort against strong Langley Hall sides, and although we only won 1 of the 4 matches, our girls displayed some fantastic all-round skills on the courts. Well done to all the players and special congratulations to Zayna, Sophia, Rhea and Safa for all being named MVP for their respective teams.

U9 Hockey at Claire’s Court

On Tuesday, two of our hockey teams travelled to Maidenhead to play in a friendly fun fixture at Claire’s Court School. The emphasis of this fixture was to get our young players introduced into competitive matches and for everyone to have as much fun as possible. The girls all played their hearts out and the afternoon was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. Well done to all the players and a special well done to both Darissa and Zahra for being nominated as the MVPs for the day.

Under 9 Football vs Thorpe House

After having our previous matches called off due to rainy weather, our Under 9 footballers finally got to play their first fixture of the season. On Tuesday we welcomed three teams from Thorpe House School. All 3 of our teams won their matches, with the U9As winning 4-2, the Bs 6-2 and the Cs 4-1. This was an outstanding result for our school, and we are immensely proud of all the players. Well done to Saarth, Avi and Siddartha for being named as MVPs for their respective teams.

Under 11 Netball vs Eton End

On Wednesday, our U11A+B Netball teams travelled to Eton End in Datchet. Although our teams were not at their strongest due to a few injuries, all of our players put up an amazing effort on the courts throughout the afternoon.  Our A team lost 5-8, while our B team lost 8-16. Very well done to all the players for their fighting spirit. A special well done to both Ria and Mahi for being nominated as their teams’ MVPs.

Under 11 Football vs Eton End:

On Wednesday, St Bernard's took two football teams to play against Eton End.

Our A team played two matches against Eton End’s A team, winning the first 2-0 and losing the second 2-1. Well done to all the players and to Ayaan, who was MVP after his incredible goalkeeping display.

Our B team played two matches against Eton End B and C teams. St Bernard’s lost the first game 2–1 but comfortably won their second match 6 - 0. Well done to all the players and to Tanish, who was the MVP for his tenacious defensive display.
