Dear Parents,

Welcome back to school after the half-term break. Autumn is definitely here, and we hope you have all enjoyed the break. We are all very excited about the busy weeks ahead!

A big thank you to the parents who attended Mrs Rafferty's Online Safety workshop on Thursday morning. It is such an important topic, and for those who couldn’t make it, there's another opportunity next Thursday at 8 am.

We are also grateful to the parents who joined us for the EYFS Coffee Afternoon - it was a fabulous chance to connect, chat, and share ideas with one another.

A special mention to Upper Trans B, who delivered a beautifully reverent and moving assembly this morning to commemorate Remembrance Day; their efforts were truly moving.

Looking ahead, next week is National Maths Week, and we are also thrilled to host a Science Week culminating in a science fair on Thursday at 3pm. We are looking forward to seeing you all!

Remembrance Assembly

This morning, Upper Trans B showcased their remarkable talent and sensitivity in delivering a truly moving Remembrance Assembly. Their dedication to honouring those who have served our nation filled the hall with warmth and reflection.

The heartfelt readings, poignant music, and thoughtful tributes have left an indelible mark on all who attended. We are proud of our children for exhibiting such maturity and respect during this important occasion.

Let us continue to cherish and remember all those who have given so much.

Science Fair

We are also holding our first St Bernard’s Prep School science fair on Thursday 14th of November 2024. The children have been encouraged to complete a science-based task at home focused on any area of science that interests them. They have had a period of about 5 weeks (including half term) to complete their project.

They could research an area of interest and display their findings on a poster board; they might choose to complete an experiment (e.g. What happens to my heart rate when I play video games?) and show their investigation write up on their poster board; they might choose to create a model with an explanation, including some history of the theory on their poster board (e.g. A model of an atom).

All of these projects will be displayed together, and all parents are invited to attend the showcase. There will be prizes and awards for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place for KS1 and for KS2.

If your child hasn't entered yet, but now wishes to, there is still time!

A great way to create your poster is to follow the plan below on the last image.

Wellbeing Weekend Wisdom

We can all be guilty of filling our time until it’s ready burst. While we might feel productive when we are that busy, it can also lead to stress. When you are faced with a decision or a stressful situation this weekend, make sure you are practising self-care. If a friend was going through the same situation, what would you say to them? Would you be using a kinder voice to talk to them? Would you be telling them to remember it’s okay to take time for themselves?

This weekend make a special effort to practise self-care and talk to yourself with the same kind voice that you would use when talking to a friend. Here are some self-care ideas, but remember only do these things if it will make you a happier and calmer version of yourself!

Celebrate Odd Socks Day – A Colourful Stand Against Bullying!
Join us this Anti-Bullying Week for Odd Socks Day on Tuesday 12th November!

It's a fun, creative way to show that it's great to be different and to stand together against bullying. By wearing mismatched socks, we embrace individuality and send a powerful message of inclusion and kindness. Let’s celebrate diversity and promote a culture of respect for one another. Together, we can make a difference – one sock at a time!

Also, a huge shout-out to Aveer (Upper Prep V) for submitting his story to the BBC 500 Words competition; I wish you the best of luck!

On Friday the 18th October our Year 5 Netball Team travelled to Langley Hall. Despite losing the match, our girls put up a fantastic display and linked up very well amongst each other on the court, resulting in some great goals being scored. Well done to all the players and a special congratulations to Mela for being awarded as the team’s MVP.

U9's and U11'S Rugby vs Dair House

This week we were up against Dair House for Under 9 and Under 11 Rugby matches. Tuesday saw our Under 9s take to the field. Both teams played exceptionally well and plenty of tries were scored. Our Under 9 Bulls won their match 14 -0, while our Under 9 Bears drew their match 8-8.  Well done to all the players and a special well done to both Hector and Mohammed for being nominated as MVPs for their respective teams. On Wednesday, our Under 11s travelled to Dair House to play against two of their teams. We lost one match and won the other. Throughout the afternoon, our team got much better and linked up more effectively to score some good tries. Well done to all the players and also to Vihaan, who was nominated as MVP for the day.

U9's and U11's Hockey vs Dair House

Our Under 9 and Under 11 Hockey teams travelled to Dair House this week for the first fixtures after the half term. Our 2 under 9 teams played a total of 4 matches winning 2, drawing 1 and losing one, while our Under 11s played 2 matches on Wednesday, drawing 1 and losing 1. Our hockey players have shown plenty of enthusiasm and determination throughout the term thus far and this week was a great testament as to how well we have improved over the last 6 weeks. Well done to all the players and a special well done to both Raya in Year 4 and Christina in Year 6 for being nominated as the MVPs for their teams.
