Dear Parents and Families,

What a joy it has been to welcome everyone back to school this week: both our returning children and families, and those who are joining the St Bernard’s family for the very first time. As I’ve walked through classrooms and corridors during my daily Teaching & Learning walk, I’ve been greeted by beaming smiles and an eagerness from the children as they settle into their new routines. It really is such a special way to begin the year.

My welcome Assembly focused on our hopes for the year ahead, and it was lovely to hear so many thoughtful contributions from both children and staff. I do hope you have found the *Save the Date* flyer useful. It definitely looks to be a busy and exciting Advent Term.

We also celebrated the canonization of Saint Carlos Acuti - the first millennial saint! It was so encouraging to hear the children explain how they understand that they can make a difference now, not just when they are older. They were able to share excellent examples of how they can promote simple daily actions: kindness, inclusivity, helping others and using their talents positively too.

This year we have even more to look forward to as we begin celebrating our 80th Anniversary. Our celebrations will start with a Welcome Mass, led by our Remove (Year 6) pupils, on Wednesday 24th September. It will also be a wonderful occasion to welcome Father Tony, our new parish priest, who joins us following Father Kevin’s retirement.

Finally, I would like to wish our Year 6 pupils who are sitting the 11+ exams the very best of luck. They have taken the Bucks 11+ test today and will sit the Berkshire exam on 20th September. They are very much in our thoughts, and we are proud of their hard work and dedication.

I hope you enjoy the selection of photos that follow - a small snapshot of the warmth, energy, and joy that fills our school.

Achievements

SATIPS Handwriting Success
We are delighted to share the fantastic news that St Bernard’s Prep has yet again been awarded 1st place in the national SATIPS Handwriting Competition. A tremendous achievement for our school! With 12 awards in total, this marks our best results ever, with successes across all age groups: two in the age 6 category, one in age 7, three in age 8, three in age 9, two in age 10 and one in age 11. This is a wonderful recognition of our children’s effort, care and pride in their work. All awards will be presented to the children in our next assembly.

Outstanding LAMDA Results
We are incredibly proud of our pupils who took their LAMDA examinations before the summer holiday. All 35 children who took part achieved a distinction. This is an outstanding accomplishment reflecting their hard work, dedication and passion for performance. This fantastic success highlights the breadth of talent at St Bernard’s Prep and demonstrates that our pupils are excelling across a broad range of disciplines. Congratulations to all involved!

Summer Reading Challenge

Congratulations to all the children who took part in this year’s Summer Reading Challenge! We are so proud of their enthusiasm and commitment to reading over the holidays. Well done to everyone who got involved, your love of reading is inspiring. Photos of our proud readers will be shared in next week’s newsletter.

Sport News

On Tuesday, our Year 4 pupils kicked off the sporting season with Rugby and Hockey fixtures against Long Close. The children played with great skill and determination, and St Bernard’s emerged victorious in all their matches. A fantastic way to start the season!
