Dear Parents and Carers

The past two weeks have been incredibly busy, festive, and full of wonderful moments across the school. From celebrations and performances to reflection and togetherness, it has been a joyful run-up to Christmas.

We kicked off the fortnight with our annual Sweet and Bottle Line-Up in the hall, brilliantly organised by our FOPS team. Each year group worked hard to create the longest possible line, with Year 6 proudly taking the win this year! All sweets and bottles collected will now be used as prizes at our upcoming Christmas Bazaar. Thank you to everyone who donated and supported this much-loved event.

On Thursday 4th December, we were treated to a delightful Christmas music concert that showcased the incredible talent across our school. We enjoyed performances from drummers, pianists, violinists, guitarists, and singers, with a fantastic opening from our school band performing Candle in the Window. A special mention goes to Viyona, Myra and Darissa, whose beautiful rendition of The Snowman was a real highlight. Parents were delighted to see the confidence and musical ability of our pupils. A big thank you to Dr Bunce and our Peripatetic teachers for always inspiring our children.

On Friday 5th December, we began the day with a thoughtful and engaging assembly led by our Faith Ambassadors, focusing on the Advent wreath and Christmas traditions from around the world. The children spoke confidently and respectfully, making it a meaningful start to the day. A big thank you to Mrs Hupalo for supporting the Faith Ambassadors in delivering such a lovely assembly.

That afternoon, excitement levels were high as the whole school visited Theatre Royal Windsor to watch Cinderella. The performance was enjoyed by everyone, with plenty of laughter throughout, and our children enthusiastically joined in with the audience participation, including dancing, singing, and many cries of “He’s behind you!”. There were audible gasps of awe as Cinderella’s carriage flew high above the audience, creating a truly magical moment for the children. The day ended with an impromptu carol concert, which delighted the theatre staff.

We began this week with a Christmas Pyjama and Film Wellbeing Day. Children arrived in festive pyjamas or Christmas outfits, bringing blankets and enjoying hot chocolate whilst watching a Christmas film in the afternoon. Throughout the day, learning continued as normal, with English, Maths, and other lessons all given a festive twist.

On Tuesday, we were lucky enough to receive a visit from some very special reindeer. While a few children were disappointed they could not see them flying, our knowledgeable handler explained that this only happens on one very special night each year. The handler shared lots of fascinating information about reindeer, and the children listened with great interest, learning all about their care, habits, and life in the winter months. The visit was a memorable and educational experience, thoroughly enjoyed by all.

Wednesday, saw our much-anticipated Christmas Bazaar. The children loved having the independence of spending their own money, playing games, and choosing prizes. The raffle at the end was a particular highlight. A huge thank you to the FOPS team for organising such a successful and enjoyable event.

On Thursday, we enjoyed Christmas Jumper Day alongside our festive Christmas lunch. A very special visitor made an appearance at the EYFS and KS1 Christmas party, bringing lots of excitement and smiles. Celebrations continued with a whole-school disco in the hall, where energy levels were high and some very questionable (but enthusiastic!) dance moves were on display.

We ended the week with a beautiful Carol Service held in the Chapel at St Bernard’s Grammar School. We were delighted to be joined by Father Tony and Ros Nockles, our Chair of Governors. Every year group led us confidently in a carol as part of their thoughtful adaptation of the Nine Lessons of Christmas. We were also treated to our very own adult choir, consisting of Mrs Kimberley, Mrs Whittaker, Mrs Wilson and Mrs Nockles, who provided the descant during the carol, adding an extra layer of richness and warmth to the service. A special mention goes to Reece in Year 5, who performed a wonderful solo during Once in Royal David’s City. A particularly special moment came from our EYFS children, who sang and signed Away in a Manger beautifully. In the midst of a very busy and exciting Christmas season, the service felt calm, peaceful, and reflective. A moment of stillness that was appreciated by everyone present.

A Hole Lot of Fun at Mini Golf!

The children competed enthusiastically against one another, and even against Mr Hawkes and Mr B, to be crowned Top Mini Golfer of the Term. It was wonderful to see the children putting the skills they have been learning into practice, and everyone had a fantastic time. Congratulations to Avi, who was crowned the overall champion. Sports News This Week / Advent Term Sports Summary / House Points

Hockey vs Dair House

Last week, our Under 9 and Under 11 Hockey teams travelled to Dair House. On Tuesday, our Under 9As and Bs took to the field, with our Under 9A team narrowly losing their match, while our B team won their match 4 goals to 1. Both teams put in a tremendous effort and all the children played exceptionally well.  On Wednesday, it was the Under 11A+B teams’ turn, and despite losing both matches narrowly, both of these teams showed great character throughout the afternoon. They linked up well, played in good space and scored a number of wonderful goals.

Huge congratulations to all the players and a special well done to Faris, Sanya, Layla and Anya for all receiving the MVP award for their teams.

Rugby Festival at Caldicott

Last Tuesday, our Under 9A and B Rugby teams travelled to Caldicott to participate in a quadrangular festival, along with the hosts Caldicott, Gayhurst and Davenies.  Both of our teams produced some fantastic rugby throughout the afternoon, scoring plenty of tries and making big tackles in their defence lines. All in all, we played 6 matches, of which we won 2, drew 1, and narrowly lost 3. Well done to all the players from both teams and a special congratulation to both Pranay and Saarth for being nominated as the MVPs for their teams.

Sports Summary – Advent Term 2025

It has once again been a very busy and exciting term for our KS2 Sports teams. In total, we have participated in 77 competitive matches against other Prep schools, achieving an excellent level of success. In addition to these fixtures, we have also taken part in the Under 10 and Under 11 Netball Tournaments at The Marist School in Ascot, as well as an Under 9 Rugby Festival at Caldicott in Farnham Royal.

It has been phenomenal to see all of our children approach their sport with such enthusiasm and determination. Every pupil in these year groups has had the opportunity to represent the school on at least two or more occasions.

Our statistics speak volumes about the hard work and commitment the children have shown, as well as the enjoyment and success they have experienced. We are immensely proud of all our teams and their outstanding achievements.

House Points Advent 2025

This term, our children have once again worked incredibly hard to collect as many points as possible for their Houses, all striving for the prestigious House Shield. House Points are awarded for a wide range of positive achievements, including:

  • Producing excellent classwork or homework
  • Being helpful to others, both children and adults
  • Carrying out good deeds and thoughtful gestures
  • Keeping a tidy uniform, desk, and locker
  • Showing politeness and good manners
  • Succeeding in inter-house events such as sports competitions, TT Rockstars, and reading challenges

The competition has been fierce, and the final scores were extremely close. A huge congratulations to House Mark, who emerged as the overall winners this term! House Luke secured 2nd place, House Matthew finished 3rd, and House John took 4th place.

Well done to all the children for their fantastic efforts and for keeping the spirit of friendly inter-house rivalry very much alive. We look forward to even more exciting competitions throughout the year, including Football, Netball, Rounders, and Athletics.

As we come to the end of a very busy term, we hope the Christmas break offers time for rest, reflection, and togetherness. We would like to thank our wonderful FOPS team and all parents and families for their continued support and generous donations throughout the term. We are also incredibly grateful for the kind and generous gifts given to our teachers and staff, which are truly appreciated. We wish all our children and families a peaceful and joyful Christmas, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back in the New Year.
