Friday 23rd October

Dear Parents,

At the beginning of this academic year we couldn't anticipate how school's 'new normal' would look.  Now, as the end of the first half term draws to a close, it brings me great joy to tell you that it isn't hugely different. The staggered school times have worked well and the children continue to learn and play in their bubbles. The extra measures we've taken with hand washing, cleaning and monitoring of symptoms has become a way of life and incorporated into our daily routines. The children continue to make us proud with their resilience and ability to adapt to change. Well done everyone.

Guardian Angels

Today we celebrated Guardian Angels with a beautiful Liturgy by Year 6.  Rohan and Ria, Amaya and Nikhil, our Head Boy, Head Girl and deputies wrote and performed their own speech, which was brilliant and enjoyed by all. Please go to the news section on the school website to read their speech in full.

St Bernard's Prep and the Community

Our Early Years children brought some fun and cheer to Oxford House, a local care home, via Zoom this week. There were songs and nursery rhymes and lots of dancing, which was enjoyed by the residence of Oxford House. We're looking forward to having our Zoom visit regularly.

More dancing for the Early Years today, when they took part in a sponsored dance to raise money for The Baby Bank, a local charity which supports babies and children in need. The response has been amazing, thank you, and an incredible £1125  has been raised so far! Brilliant job Early Years.

Daffodil bulbs

Today every child and adult at St Bernard's Prep was given a daffodil bulb to plant as part of our Guardian Angels celebrations. We're really looking forward to watching the new shoots bring a splash of colour to the school grounds in the spring.

Inspired by artists

Our BAME art displays continue to be the source of much inspiration throughout the school. The children in every year group have made some beautiful creations.

Year 1 have been studying another artist, Paul Klee and have incorporated it in their mathematics, literacy, ICT, and some wonderful creative writing. Here is a brief glimpse of the outstanding work that they have created.

Congratulations

Huge congratulations to all our pupils who work hard and achieve outside their academic subjects. Year 4 have had an especially successful week.

Hailee received a distinction in Level 5 music theory, Musa achieved a blue belt in karate and Aryaman has passed his Grade 1 Drums exam with distinction. Well done!

Have a wonderful break and stay safe.

Yours sincerely

Mr N Cheesman
