Dear Parents,

Bienvenido, Salut, Khush Amdeed, Bine ari venit, Svaagat he, Welcome!

It is wonderful to welcome all the children back in school. Noisy and wonderful.  The tone of the week was set when the children walked into school on Monday morning surrounded by bubbles and balloons.  Early Years were met by Oliver Jeffers crayons and Key Stage 1 were wonderful colour monsters. We had picnics at lunch time and the week-long mini Olympics has been a huge success.  In between all this fun we have been assessing the children, finding their strengths, their areas for development and celebrating the fantastic progress they have made during a very challenging few months of learning.

Mini Olympics

The children, from nursery to Year 6, have been competing in a mini Olympics this week. They've bounced, jumped, hopped and sprinted their way through events to win points for their Houses. The final house point count will be be done next week and our winners announced.

Bible Quote about Perseverance

Galatians 6: 9 – 10   Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.  Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.

To me, this means that we shouldn’t get tired of doing the right thing and following in God’s footsteps. We should persevere even when times are tough for God is our guardian angel; he sits on our shoulder and is with us through all the good times and through all the bad times. When we have the opportunity to do something meaningful, we should take the opportunity as we will not only make a positive impact on someone’s life, but we will also grow closer to God. It is like a harvest – it may be hard in the beginning but if we carry on sowing the seeds, there will be a fruitful, abundant harvest which can be shared with everyone. With all our hard work we will get the fruits of the Holy Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.

Etoile de la semaine

This week's star of the week in French goes to Rohan in Year 6 for his diligence.

Tres bien Rohan!

Science Week

We have been getting practical across the school for British Science Week this week. In Year 3 the children conducted experiments to test soil drainage and Year 2 explored the school grounds looking at textures in nature and even found newts in the school pond.  Year 4 were exploring and comparing how sound travels through different materials and year 5 are examining the action of forces.

At the top of the school our Year 6 Science Quiz team did a great job representing St Bernard's Prep coming 10th out of 35 schools. Congratulations Bobby, Sola, Zara and Ameer!

Bobby's Books

I have a very exciting book that I would like to share with you, Year 2. It is called ''Tibble and Grandpa'' by Wendy Meddour and illustrated by Daniel Egneus.

It is very nice and funny and I sure did enjoy it! There's something wonderful every page you turn so I hope you love reading it!

Have a lovely weekend, a wonderful Mothering Sunday and a very happy Pi Day, which I'm told by Mrs Bowen and Mrs Skorupska is this Sunday.

Yours sincerely,
