Weekly Newsletter 7th May 2020

Dear Parents,

As we approach what promises to be a sunny bank holiday weekend, I want to congratulate the children on another successful week of remote learning, and thank the staff who continue to work so hard to make this new learning environment a triumph.

While we may all get frustrated at times about the limitations imposed to keep us safe and well, I hope that you are all able to enjoy some family time this bank holiday weekend.

Yours sincerely

Mr N S Cheeman

Early Years have been learning about 'People who help us' this half term, which is especially appropriate at the moment given how much we all depend on key workers. It was lovely to hear of one child who said that when they grow up they'd like to work for the NHS to help others.

This week Year 1 have introduced awards for Acts of Kindness. They can be nominated by their family or nominate a member of their family. We have had some great videos and one child got up early to prepare a special anniversary breakfast for her parents with her grandmother. Keep up the good work Year 1.

Miss Grogan and Miss Mehta were delighted with the sentence stacking work produced by Year 3, based on the book The Happy Prince. The children even got a personal message of congratulations from Jane Ray, author and illustrator of the book, on our Instagram social media account @stbernardsprep. Quite an accolade, and thoroughly deserved. Well done.

Some imaginative and thoughtful designs for supermarket bags from our Year 4s this week.

Mrs Verma's 'Thunk Of The Day' has prompted some interesting and at times philosophical discussions amongst the Year 5s. We'll leave you to ponder on yesterday's Thunk: Do you have to be old to be wise?

Beautiful artwork from Year 6 on Surrealism keeps coming in. Please do visit our gallery of work in the Home Learning Hub to see some Dali-esque work, and lots of other samples of work from pupils across all year groups.

Year 4 have been studying Aesop's Fables and the proverbs and morals at the heart of them. Tasked with writing their own fable, the children have produced some lovely stories.
