Weekly Newsletter 15th May 2020

Dear Parents,

The weeks are flying by and it seems unbelievable that next week is our final week before May half term.  As I'm sure you are aware, the second half of this term is likely to see the phasing back to school for some year groups. This week parents of children in Pre Early Years, Early Years 1 and 2 and Year 6 pupils have received a letter and a survey about the return to school.  We will have to wait for confirmation from the Government, but I would like to assure you that the health and wellbeing of our children, staff and all St Bernard's Prep families will always remain our paramount concern. Provisions and arrangements will be made to accommodate the necessary safety standards and I will write to you as soon as possible to communicate how our return to school will work in practice.

For the year groups who have received a survey, please do complete it and send it back by Monday to help us with our action plan.

In the meantime the school continues to be open for children of critical workers only.

French week

In normal circumstances we'd be waving our Year 6 pupils off to France next week and it is so disappointing for everyone that this is not able to go ahead as planned.  However, as we're not able to take the children to France, we're bringing France to the children. Next week Year 6 will be off timetable and getting stuck into all things French, from baking and art to quizzes and challenges.

Tout le monde sait combien j'aime la France. Passez une excellente semaine de sixième année.

Headmaster's Awards

With every week that passes we all become more comfortable with this new way of teaching and learning and I'm pleased to say that we are getting some great work from the children.  This week there have been two pupils nominated for the Headmaster's Award, so huge congratulations to Rohan Randhawa and Jaspreet Khera in year 5 who were nominated by Mrs Verma for their positive attitudes towards learning and always trying their best, and a bit more! Well done.

Young artists

Year 2 continue to impress their teachers with their hard work and creativity. They have produced some beautiful portraits of Vincent Van Gogh this week.

To see more work from Year 2 and all the children at St Bernard's Prep please visit the galleries in our Home Learning Hub.

Our specialist teachers have given some great feedback this week.  There have been musical instruments made and played, fossils pressed into salt dough, french songs sung and stages of erosion depicted digitally.

Mr Barendse continues to keep us fit and busy with weekly fitness challenges, which have been really well received. Some of the children are really pushing themselves to the limit and setting some decent scores, which are going to be very tough to beat.  Special mentions this week to Myra in Early Years, Kyron in Year 1, Manpreet and Raman both in Year 2, Amaar in Year 3, Okuse in Year 4, Rohan and Jaspreet in Year 5 and Maria R in Year 6. Their efforts have been outstanding throughout the PE and Games tasks set this week. Well done!

Congratulations to Mia Bindra (EY2), who passed level 5 in gymnastics this week, and Kashvi Kudrekar (EY2) who passed her blue belt in karate. Both girls were assessed over Zoom, well done.

Please continue to share your photos and videos with us. It's always lovely to see the children and share their work on our website and social media channels. Finally, it was nice to get some recognition in the local press for our approach to remote teaching, do take a look, Slough Observer.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Yours Sincerely,

Mr N Cheesman
