Dear Parents,

We've had a great week to wrap up this half-term. A visiting theatre group, Bollywood dance classes, apples and bun, Guardian Angels, sport, a FOPS meeting, Buddy Week, to name just a few of my personal highlights.

Buddy Week

Every year the whole school takes part in Buddy Week, where we all give a little extra to our Buddy. The children make cards for their Buddy and staff, and it has added to the general feel-good atmosphere around school all week.

Trunk Theatre Productions

Children in Upper Prep (Year 2) and Lower Trans (Year 3) were treated to a fantastic production of The Great Fire of London.  The children have covered this topic in history, so it was wonderful to see the story brought to life on stage. Immersive experiences are a wonderful way to embed learning and add context to topics that we cover in class.

Bollywood

On Wednesday, as part of our Guardian Angels celebrations, visited us at school to give the children and staff a crash course in Bangra Dancing. We all loved learning how to change the light bulbs! Enjoy the videos on our social media accounts.

Guardian Angels

Our Guardian Angels tradition goes back more years than anyone can remember and has always been one of the highlights of the school calendar. It's a lovely day when everyone receives an iced bun and an apple - and we all have lots of fun! This year was no exception, and Remove (Year 6) had us all in stitches with their performance.  Louis made special cupcakes and the children gave the teachers beautiful cards. The perfect end to a great half term.

Under 9 Hockey vs Long Close School

On Tuesday the 18thof October our Under 9A and B Hockey teams travelled to Long Close School for their last fixture of this half-term. With plenty of preparation and hard work, our girls were determined to improve on their last performance – and they did not disappoint! Both teams came away with two emphatic victories: the Under 9As winning 9-5, and the Under 9Bs winning 5-1. Mr Hawkes, who accompanied the teams was full of praise for all the players and was most impressed by how well they blended and played together as two very well-organised teams. Congratulations to both teams and a special well done to both Christina and Sahar for being nominated as the MVPs for their respective teams.

PE and Games in the Spotlight

We have had a fabulous first half-term of all-round sport in our school across all the year groups thus far. In only 6 weeks our children have already taken part in activities such as dance, rugby, hockey, football, netball, dodgeball and coneball, to name a few. In addition to this, our sports teams have had a very busy schedule travelling to other schools to participate in competitive fixtures.

Our children in the Early Years Department are enthusiastically developing the fundamental skills of movement, balance, coordination, flexibility and agility through both active play and music and dance. A special mention must be made to the children in both the Prep and Upper Prep Classes who have made massive strides learning and understanding team and invasion games, and in doing so they have made wonderful progress in both passing and catching skills.  Well done to all the children across the school. We look forward to more of the action when we return.

Celebrating Success

Congratulations to Hailee in Remove (Yr 6) who has once again been asked to play for the National Children's Orchestra and Kaiden in Upper Trans (Yr 5) who has also been accepted. Such fantastic achievements.

Congratulations to Arjan in Early Years 1 for being awarded his first medal in wrestling. Well done Arjan.

Avani in Lower Trans (Yr 3) completed a Spartan race - what a feat of endurance! Well done Avani.

FOPS - Friends Of Prep School

I had a great meeting with FOPS (Friends of Prep School) our PTA team this week. It was nice to see familiar faces amongst those who attended, and welcome some families who are new to the school. There are some brilliant plans afoot  - put 5th December in your diary, details tbc! - and we're excited about some new events that we can introduce too. If you'd like to be involved do let the school office know and we will put you in touch with our FOPS Army!

Half-Term Reading Recommendations

This week, in addition to Tulsi's book review, I have included the Book Trust's 100 best books of the last 100 years. How many have you read? Have a look at the list and pick a book (or two!) from the list to read at home. You could even write a book review and submit it when we return from half-term. Perhaps you'll see it in the next newsletter!
