Dear Parents,
It has been full STEAM ahead this week with some fantastic activities going on around school to celebrate National Steam Day. Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths are all subjects which STEAM focused on. STEAM activities allow collaborative learning and often thinking outside the box, which are wonderful skills for children to be exposed to. It has been wonderful to watch the children unleash their creativity, seeing them explore and develop their skills has been inspiring. A huge thank you to Mrs Rafferty, our STEAM lead and computing specialist who coordinated the event. It was a fantastic experience for staff and children.

Remembrance Day
This morning's Remembrance Assembly, led by Upper Trans W, was a beautiful tribute to all the people who have lost their lives in war. It is a sombre occasion, but I am always touched by how mature and respectful our St Bernard's Prep children are. With the war in Ukraine we are reminded of the suffering that people are still enduring during wartime, and we remember them in our prayers.

Even our youngest children enjoyed expressing the engineer within, when they built bridges to help their bears cross the water to reach their caves for shelter.

Mouse Robots (Year 1)
Our children in Prep (Year 1) had an exciting maths challenge and learnt to code a robotic mouse. The children had to programme their mouse to navigate a maze and find the cheese.

Rainbow Walk (Year 2)
Upper Prep got arty exploring colour and created their very own rainbow walk and lava lamps! The children learnt about chromatography - the separating of a mixture into its component parts - and created some beautiful art with the technique.

Music Maestros (Year 3)
Banjos, panpipes and harmonicas created a cacophony of noise from Lower Trans (Year 3) who spent the STEAM session creating their own musical instruments, and then playing them!

Crime Busters (Year 4)
Trans (Year 4) were called in to solve a case, using forensic science. Once they arrived at the crime scene they were tasked with finding out who stole the town's jewels! The children found clues using binary code, fingerprints, and DNA evidence from the getaway car!

Launch Off (Year 5)
Tied in with their topic on Space in Science, Upper Trans (Year 5) made their own water rockets - with magnificent results! The children all gathered on the field and took turns shooting the rockets into outer space (almost!).

South American Solutions (Year 6)
Remove (Year 6) were solving South American problems to tie in with their Geography topic. They built zip lines for Howler monkeys, devices to protect the Galapagos turtle eggs, built an ancient Macchu Picchu world from blocks and create a prototype of a water wheel for the world's largest hydro water plant. Next stop COP 27!

Mr B's Sport Report
Under 9 Hockey vs Long Close School
On Tuesday the 18thof October our Under 9A and B Hockey teams travelled to Long Close School for their last fixture of the first half-term. With plenty of preparation and hard work, our girls were very determined to improve on their last performance – and they did not disappoint! Both teams came away with two emphatic victories with the Under 9As winning 9-5, and the Under 9Bs winning
5-1.
Mr Hawkes, who accompanied the teams, was full of praise for all the players and was most impressed by how well they blended and played together as two very well organised teams. Congratulations to both teams and a special well done to both Christina and Sahar for being nominated as the MVPs for their respective teams.
Rugby vs Thorpe House
This week our Under 11 Rugby teams travelled to Thorpe House in Gerrards Cross. Our opposition were exceptionally strong and that made the challenge even more entertaining. Although we lost both of the games, our boys blended well amongst each other and produced some fantastic tries. Tilak, Aryaman, Aneni, Sid and Kabir all crossed the line to score tries for their respective teams. A special well done to both Tilak and Aryaman for being nominated as the Players of Match in each of their games.

Anti-Bullying Ambassadors
We are delighted to introduce you to our Anti-Bullying Ambassadors. On Wednesday we took a group of children to The Marist School for a day of Anti-Bullying training in collaboration with the Diana Award. The Diana Award honours young people who work to improve the lives of others. Named after Diana, Princess of Wales, the award was established in 1999 by a board chaired by Gordon Brown. The Award is the most prestigious accolade a young person aged 9-25 can receive for their social action or humanitarian work. We look forward to our Ambassadors sharing what they've learnt from their training next week in Anti-Bullying week.
