Dear Parents,
Not one to rest on our laurels, the week got off to a flying start with Prep G visiting the Denham Aerodrome. During our History lessons this term the children have been learning about the Wright brothers and their amazing achievements in developing the first aircraft. To enhance the children’s learning they went on an amazing trip to Denham Aerodrome. The children had the opportunity to see light aircraft and helicopters; they even sat in a light aircraft and controlled the elevator and rudder!
The children also met Quentin Smith who is the first European to circumnavigate the globe in a piston (as opposed to turbine) powered machine and the first crew (along with Q’s student pilot Brooks) to fly to both North and South Poles by helicopter. The children had a wonderful morning and came back to school with a wealth of knowledge about their experience. I think we may well have some future pilots in our midst!

Forever hopeful...
Today’s class assembly by Lower Trans K was all about the Hope-O-Pottamus. It was joyful to watch and the children’s dramatic talents were on full display as they successfully conveyed the important message about having resilience or as I call it ‘gumption’, especially during difficult times. Ms Underwood also delivered this morning's reflection based on 'Counting on our Blessings'. It definitely gave us all food for thought, especially at a time when we can all, at times be guilty of forgetting to appreciate the smaller things in life.

Mother's Day Breakfast
We started the week in Early Years by welcoming our wonderful mummies into school for a Mother's Day breakfast. They enjoyed pastries, cookies and a choice of cereal, along with tea, coffee and a selection of juices. The children then presented each of their mums with a daffodil. Also on Wednesday, we hosted a Stay and Play for parents. It was a great opportunity for the children to share their favourite toys, activities, and play in our outdoor area.

Rising to the Challenge!
Our ‘Junior Dukers’ have been working hard to complete their challenges since October 2022, and the exciting news is some children are close to completing all seven of them!
After Easter we will be awarding the first batch of certificates and badges to children who have pulled out all the stops to learn new life skills. Ms Underwood is very proud of what every child has achieved and is particularly impressed with how the children have demonstrated resourcefulness, perseverance and resilience. Completed challenges include: cookery, budgeting, safety in the home, domestic challenges, first aid, creativity and well-being. During the Junior Duke sessions the children have learnt how to sew on a button, how to wire a plug, country dancing, origami and even Reiki!
Awarding the first badges and certificates will be a wonderful acknowledgement of how amazing our children are and how they always rise to the challenge!

Head Teacher’s Challenge – Easter 2023
To celebrate the upcoming coronation of King Charles III, we would like you to design and decorate your own crown during the Easter holidays.
Will your crown represent what it means to be British? Will you design a crown to bring awareness to an issue important in Britain today? Will you find a way to represent all the nations of the United Kingdom? Will you represent the commonwealth?
Crowns will be judged at the coronation celebration in May.

Berkshire Young Musician of the Year 2023 Competition
We would like to congratulate Hailee on her amazing performance at the final of The Berkshire Young Musician of the Year 2023 Strings Competition. Hailee played with such passion and feeling, that Mrs Bowen and Mrs Whittaker were overwhelmed with pride. They had the privilege of sitting with Hailee’s Dad who videoed every second! We know that Hailee’s parents are also incredibly proud of all her achievements. Thank you Hailee for letting us share your evening. To be one of 120 entries, to 42 semi-finalists and then to 12 finalists at the age of 11 is phenomenal!

Our Under 9 netball team put up an outstanding performance at the annual Gayhurst Tournament. Our team played seven matches, winning four, losing two and drawing one. We blended very well together on the courts throughout the afternoon and scored plenty of goals.

Disco Fever Hits Prep
From musical statues to the best dancers - fun was had by one and all! YMCA to the Macarena, Everybody Was Kung-Fu Fighting! From collecting buddies to the last dance the children and staff had a blast. It was definitely a watershed moment for some, as this was their first ever disco (hopefully the first of many).

I hope you are inspired to pick up your dancing shoes and bop to your hearts content around the kitchen! Just to confirm the children's dress code today is not the new school uniform, however much I loved to see all the sequins and sparkles! Have a wonderful weekend.
Yours sincerely,
Mrs A Verma
