Dear Parents

It has been another fun filled week, and we have had the pleasure of catching up with lots of our St Bernard's family. From welcoming our Early Years Dads for a Father's Day breakfast to welcoming parents for the EYFS sports day, we were also delighted to see lots of parents join us to visit our art exhibition and today Year 6 had a wonderful trip to meet the Bernadine Sisters in Stroud.

I would like to say a special thank you to all the dads that came to our EYFS Father’s Day breakfast. It was lovely seeing how busy it was in the dining hall and a real treat for our younger children to share breakfast with their dads before going into class.

As a school we have embraced Child Safety Week, there have been activities throughout the school and all our children, including EYFS, have had First Aid training. From cuts and bruises to more serious injuries, our children now know how to take action and provide immediate assistance. Plus, they can also pass on their newly learnt skills to family and friends.

Early Years sports day was a huge success on Wednesday. Our little sports stars put on an incredible show. From the bean bag run to the skipping race, our young athletes showcased their skills and brought their best game to the field. It was an amazing sight watching them compete with such energy and enthusiasm.

Thank you to all the parents who stopped by the Atrium this week to view our art exhibition. It was great to see so many parents come together to admire the incredible works of art created by our talented children. I am incredibly proud of the budding artists we have within our walls. A big thank you to all the staff who helped collate the work and present it. Another string to our bow to ensure your children receive a well-rounded education.

Year 1 had a very successful cake sale on Thursday for their social justice project to save the Orangutans in Borneo. They were so excited to sell their cakes to the older children at break time and raised an amazing £217 for their cause.

Year 6 really enjoyed their trip to Stroud today, the trip was a deliberate pause for thought and a chance to focus on God. A time to pray, a time to be still and a time to also have fun together. The trip is a reminder that God is with the children as they face the challenge of a new school.

Early Years - Safety Week

This week the children have been introduced to many people who help to keep us safe. We had First Aid training with Nurse Vicki, she showed us how to call for help and even how to put someone in the recovery position! Charley and Molly, two local police officers spoke to us about what to do if we needed help in an emergency and finally Dentist Jyoti (Lakshmi and Vidya’s mummy PEY) taught us all about her job being a dentist. She showed us how to brush our teeth correctly and the importance of eating healthy foods.

Year 3  Bee-Attitudes Assembly

Lower Trans K delivered a fantastic assembly yesterday morning all about the power of thinking. They introduced the school to the St Bernard's 'Bee-attitudes to Thinking', a tool box of learning behaviours and positive thinking habits which will help us to have a deeper understanding of how to learn and think effectively. At St Bernard’s Prep we are thinking all the time and because we believe thinking is so important for positive learning, we are working towards becoming a thinking school. Well done Lower Trans K!

Sports

U9 - Cricket and Rounders

This week all of our Under 9 children took a stroll to Lacelles Park to play against Long Close at Cricket and Rounders. The Cricket was very competitive with both teams taking wickets, catches and hitting solid 4's on what was a large boundary. St Bernard's won the match, mainly down to their terrific fielding and batting from all children. Well done to all players especially Ayaan who was our MVP. Similarly, the Rounders match was a close fought affair with both teams scoring lots of Rounders. St Bernard's however, fielded slightly better than our opponents and ended up winning the game by 3 Rounders! Well done to all children who competed so well on Tuesday afternoon and to Zayna who was voted Rounders MVP.

U11 - Cricket

On Wednesday, our 11A and B teams also went to play against Long Close at Lacelles. The A team played against some very tough opponents who bowled with precision and speed, meaning St Bernards's struggled to make runs consistently. St Bernards showed great resilience, when fielding and bowling, keeping their opponents score down but Long Close came out winning the match by 17 runs. Well done to Sid, who was St Bernard's MVP.

The U11 B team played some outstanding Cricket, showing some brilliant bowling and batting especially. St Bernard's B team beat Long Close comfortably in the end, well done to all players and to Suhas who was MVP.

Preparations for our FOPs Summer Fete are well underway and we are all very excited. It will be held on Friday 30th June 2023 from 3pm to 6pm.

As you may be aware, most of the funds from events like this are raised through the main event, the school raffle, with prizes generously donated by parents and local sponsors. FOPs are hopeful that you may be willing to provide them with suitable raffle prizes for the event.

The success of our fundraising depends upon the generosity and spirit of you all. They are looking for things like vouchers, new toys and items suitable for prizes for the raffle. Please can you drop any prizes to the School Office.

Thank you in advance for your donations.

If you are attending the Fete you may collect your children at 3pm, alternatively school will finish at the usual time of 3.30pm. After School Clubs will continue as normal.
