Dear Parents
I feel truly blessed to have shared a wonderful and busy year. Our ISI inspection confirmed what an excellent school we are, on all fronts. Our commitment to our children's wellbeing, through elocution, Lamda, workshops, productions, Summer Fete and prize giving. This highlights we are school that never stops. Everything we do is focused on the best interests of the children, so that they are given every opportunity to fly.

Summer Fete
After several years of waiting, due to unforeseen circumstances, the planned Summer Fete 2023 went ahead after school on Friday 30th July, AND IT DID NOT DISAPPOINT! A great time was had by one and all from inflatable obstacle courses to succulent samosas, beefy beef burgers, cheeky chicken wraps, lucky dip, toy stall, cake stall and a soaked Mr C. There was truly something for everyone and a special thank you once again to our wonderful team of FOPs who made it all happen. The whole event was successful to the tune of £2,225. Hurrah!

Elocution
As promised, the elocution results are as follows:-
Avni Khosa - Winner – Lower School
Vyona Parashar – runner up – Lower School
Rhia Saini – Winner – Upper School
Mrs Nockles, our Chief Elocution Judge, addressed the school, giving excellent pointers and positive comments in order for the children to improve if they could. (Some of the children would struggle to improve as Mrs Nockles expressed just how fabulous the standard of elocution is at St Bernard’s Prep).

Prize Giving
On Thursday evening, Prep school welcomed the Year 6 parents to our prestigious annual prize giving awards ceremony. Come 6.30, all the tables were set, the stage was hoovered, the cups had been polished, speeches tweaked, harmonies practised and parents and Year 6 children were all suited and booted! The scene was set for what was to be a remarkable evening of excellence. Every child was recognised individually for their success coming through the school – skills, talents and efforts, when they came forward onto the stage to collect their prize or their cup in front of a packed hall to raucous applause.

Chess Competition
It was decided that the Annual Chess Competition this year would not be a straightforward knock out but a round robin where 11 competitors would all play each other. The winning player would be the player that had accumulated the most points. During Friday's assembly, the results were announced with each child being presented with a bar of chocolate. The more points the children achieved, the bigger the chocolate! How fitting, as the presentation took place on World Chocolate Day on the 7th July 2023.
The results are
Sixth place was awarded to Saacha in Trans (Year 4).
Fifth to Arbaaz in Upper Trans (Year 5)
Fourth to Aydin in Trans (Year 4)
Third to Zane in Upper Trans (Year 5)
Second to Arjun B in Trans (Year 5)
and the huge bar of chocolate went to Beant in Upper Trans (Year 5).
It should be mentioned that between second and third place only one point separated them!

As always, the competition was very tight right up until the very end. LUKE were crowned the overall Winners of this academic year, with MARK being the runners-up, JOHN was third and MATTHEW came fourth.
Well done to all the children for their outstanding efforts and we look forward to more hotly contested inter-house rivalry next year!

Design & Technology Remove (Year 6)
This term Year 6 have created a leavers clock. They made mood boards of their favourite school memories. The children then drew their designs on a clock face.

Design & Technology Lower Trans (Year 3)
This term the Year 3 children have been designing and creating 3D picture frames. The children had to measure pieces of wood accurately and then cut the wood with the saw. They then created their picture frame by joining the pieces of wood together and adding their card designs.

Upper Trans (Year 5)
Fire Safety visit
St Bernard’s was lucky enough to welcome the local fire service to come and educate the Upper Trans children regarding fire safety. The children thoroughly enjoyed their visit, as well as a tour of the fire engine itself. Hopefully, they will have spoken to their parents about fire evacuation plans in their own homes!! A thoroughly worthwhile visit.
Road Safety workshop
The Upper Trans children attended a workshop - ‘The Riot Act’ explored how to stay safe on the roads and promote sustainable travel.

Headteacher's Challenge
This year at school, we have thought a lot about the British Values of democracy, tolerance, respect, liberty and the rule of law. For our Headteacher's challenge this summer, we would like the children to design a coat of arms to represent the British values. It should be as eye-catching as possible, it may include all the British values on their coat of arms or focus on just one of the values. Mrs Young is looking forward to seeing all the shields in September.

Finally, thank you to all the Remove parents for supporting St Bernard's Prep and therefore, their children, which has allowed them to leave us more than ready to take on the challenges of their next school.
I would like to thank all the parents for the wonderful end of year gifts, which I know are much appreciated by all the staff.
I am finishing the term tired but satisfied, especially with the KS1 and KS2 SATS results, which once again confirm that working hard pays off in droves. Having worked hard throughout the school year, it is now time to play harder!!
Have a great Summer and keeeeeeeeeeeep reading!
Best wishes
Mrs A Verma
