Dear Parents,

We have had an amazing week filled with celebrations centred around some of my most cherished things. Beginning with World Book Day, our avid readers had an absolute blast immersing themselves in their beloved stories. To start the day, we pampered our children with a delicious breakfast at our Breakfast Book Club! They indulged in tasty treats whilst delving into the magical world of words. The Breakfast Book Club brings together two of my greatest passions – food and literature, what a combo! It served as an ideal avenue to foster a love for reading and craft unforgettable moments.

We also had our 'Meet the SLT Evening'. Ideas were shared, delicious cheese and wine were savoured, and meaningful conversations were had. Our Senior Leadership Team thoroughly enjoyed meeting and interacting with all of you, hearing your thoughts, and answering your questions. We value your feedback and suggestions tremendously, as they help us shape the future of our wonderful school.

I also had the privilege of celebrating the hard work and dedication of our amazing staff with a Well-Being gathering. It was a fantastic opportunity to acknowledge their hard work and to show my gratitude for everything they do. It is the passion and enthusiasm of our teachers, administrators, and support staff that makes our school so special.

Staff members were treated to a delightful assortment of refreshments and snacks, allowing them to unwind and enjoy each other's company. Laughter filled the air as they shared stories, bonded, and celebrated their successes.

Assembly Upper Prep - Mother's Day

This week, Upper Trans' class assembly was all about Mother's Day. It was a great opportunity for the children to reflect on everything that makes their mums so special and celebrate all the hardwork involved in being a mother. All the children made beautiful cards with heartfelt messages to thank their individual mothers. There were even a few tears of happiness shared by the parents in attendance!

British Science Week

This week we have been celebrating the wonders of science and fostering a love for exploration and discovery in our children.

Throughout the week, our talented teachers planned a series of captivating lessons to ignite curiosity and spark scientific thinking.

Year 1

In Prep, we have some amazing new members in our class...STICK INSECTS! They are here to teach us all about their extraordinary world and help us become budding scientists. Did you know stick insects are masters of disguise? With their incredible ability to blend into their surroundings, they are real-life superheroes of camouflage!

Year 3

Lower Trans have loved being fossil detectives this week. They have been looking at the fossilised remains of animals that lived thousands of years ago. They have really enjoyed using our handheld microscopes to get a closer look, and they have even started taking the microscopes out at breaktime to discover the microscopic world around us!

Year 4

Transition were let loose with Data Loggers to investigate and measure the different levels of sound throughout the school. They recorded the quietest and noisiest areas in school. It would be completely unprofessional of me to share with you which member of staff had the loudest laugh, but she teaches Computing and sometimes goes by the name of DJ RiffRaff!

Year 6

Remove started off this year's British Science Week learning more about the fossil records. This fits brilliantly with this year's theme of time. They completed an online learning course hosted by the prestigious Berkeley University, California. They looked at different fossils and had to be detectives to learn about the past from the fossil clues.

We were overwhelmed by the incredible response to the Alexander Devine 'Big Chick Knit' campaign.

A huge thank you to everyone who generously donated delicious chocolate eggs for this wonderful cause. Your kindness will make Easter extra special for the children being cared for by Alexander Devine Hospice.

Thanks to your support, we can bring smiles and joy to these amazing little heroes. You have truly made a difference!

Netball

Under 9 Netball vs Gayhurst

On Tuesday, three Netball teams went to Gayhurst to play against their four teams. St Bernard's took three mixed teams of boys and girls to play. All teams played against each other and St Bernard's won all of their matches except one! What an amazing achievement! Well done to all of those who played and competed superbly. You all showed terrific teamwork. Special congratulations to Innaya, Kashvi and Hargun for being nominated as MVPs.

Under 11 Netball Long Close

While our footballers were battling it out at Lascelles Park, our U11 netballers were at Long Close School playing in a number of “ Bee Buzzer” format matches. With 3 of our teams taking part, we played in 8 matches, of which we won 7 and lost just one. The teams worked very well amongst each other and as a result we scored plenty of goals. Congratulations to all the children for their spectacular performances, and a special well done to Elle, Haripriya and Tulsi for being chosen as their teams’ MVPs.

Under 8 Netball vs Gayhurst

On Thursday, three of our Under 8 Netball teams welcomed Gayhurst to our school  for an afternoon of 4 a-side Buzzer Netball matches. All of the teams played against each other and although scores were not counted, plenty of goals were scored due to all of the players blending very well amongst each other. Well done to all of those who played and competed superbly, you all showed terrific teamwork. A special congratulations to Ari, Saffron and Viyona for being nominated as MVPs.

I would like to extend warm wishes to all the incredible mothers and mother figures in our school community and wish you all a restful weekend.

Whether you are a mum, stepmum, grandma, or any other maternal figure, your love, guidance, and sacrifices are truly appreciated and celebrated.

Let us also take the opportunity to shower our own wonderful mums with love, gratitude, and acts of kindness. Remember, even small gestures can mean the world!

Enjoy the festivities, treasure the memories, and have a fantastic Mother's Day weekend! Let the love and appreciation flow!

I would also like to send my warmest wishes to all our families who will be embarking on the spiritual journey of Ramadan this Sunday.
