Dear Parents,

This week, the entire school joined together for the May procession. I was deeply moved by the beauty and respect shown during this annual event. The children filled me with pride as they carried their flowers to the grotto and sang with all their hearts. A huge thank you to Ms Underwood and Lower Trans U for guiding us so well in this beloved tradition.

We were thrilled to welcome Pauline Cuddihy, the Strategic Lead for the diocese, to our school on Wednesday. She was highly impressed, particularly by the nurturing relationships between the staff and the children, the R.E. books, the displays, and the May Procession – you only ever get one chance to make a first impression and your children, as always, surpassed themselves!

She dedicated time to understanding our school ethos, was impressed by our approach to the way we teach R.E. ensuring all faiths are included and loved how we include our school values in all we do. The highlight was when she expressed that if she were to return to teaching, she would choose to teach at our school. What a compliment!

Early Years Vaisakhi Celebrations.

Early Years enjoyed celebrating the Sikh festival of Vaisakhi. Thank you to The Sandhu friends and family for engaging the children as they spoke about how they celebrate Vaisakhi and the customs and beliefs of the Sikh religion . The children had the opportunity to play the Vaja and wave the Nishan Sahib flag. They ended their celebrations by sharing Prashad and dancing to traditional music. Many thanks to all the families that contributed to making this day such a huge success.

Year 6 Science

To finish their topic on 'Evolution and Inheritance', our Remove children have been working scientifically, using all of their skills to remove the DNA from a strawberry. They successfully managed to break down the cells of their strawberry using an extraction buffer. They then had to patiently wait while their mixture filtered to enable them to add a removal solution in order to get their DNA. The last step is an agonising 10-minute wait to see if the DNA appears. The joy and excitement of seeing the strands appear is well worth the wait!

Lower Trans T Assembly

This morning, Lower Trans T delivered an amazing and motivational assembly focusing on the strength of teamwork. They drew parallels with how Jesus chose his disciples, highlighting that their diverse traits made them a stronger team. The children stressed the significance of accepting both our similarities and differences, emphasising that every individual - teachers, parents, children, and all staff members - play a crucial role in our St. Bernards Preparatory School team.

Greek Orthodox Easter Celebrations.

To all our Orthodox families, we wish you a joyous and blessed Easter celebration this weekend. Let's take a moment to appreciate Niko, (Yr 3) who dedicated his weekends during the Easter holiday helping out at his Greek Orthodox Church. Here he is captured after the Holy Communion. Let us honour the traditions and precious moments that make this weekend unique and, as always, embrace the diversity within our school community.

Sport

Lower Trans Swimming

During the Lent Term, our swimmers in Lower Trans took part in a number of assessments and activities at the Langley Lesuire Centre.  Over 10 weeks the children made super progress and demonstrated great confidence and enthusiasm in the swimming pool.

This group of swimmers achieved success throughout the term, with 4 gold, 1 silver and 6 bronze accolades being awarded.

Well done to all these children, and good luck to our last group who are participating this term.
