Dear Parents,

What an eventful week we have had! Despite an unexpected snowfall on Tuesday, the children in EYFS bravely took part in their Sponsored Walk on behalf of the Baby Bank, proving that no weather can dampen their spirits!

Wednesday was a delight, as Upper Transition led a beautiful Liturgy celebrating Christ the King. Later that day, Upper Prep and Lower Transition enjoyed a fantastic performance from 'Trunk Theatre', who treated Upper Prep and Lower Trans to a wonderful performance on ‘The Great Fire of London’. The mix of singing, dancing, and fun games truly brought the historical tale to life! Meanwhile, Upper Transition embarked on an exciting trip to the Harry Potter Studios, where they were mesmerised by the sets, costumes, and artefacts. To top it all off, they also enjoyed a magical maths lesson before returning to school for a pizza and sleepover in the school hall. They all had an amazing time and the unexpected visit from the fire brigade just added to the excitement.

Thursday saw Upper Prep and Upper Transition in awe as they welcomed the 'Feathers and Fur Falconry Centre'. Watching the majestic birds of prey swoop across the hall was a real highlight.

We rounded off the week on a high note with a splendid Christingle Assembly from Upper Prep. I couldn’t be prouder of their heartfelt performances—each child spoke clearly and sang beautifully, they made me extremely happy and ready for the day ahead.

Upper Trans Y Assembly

On Wednesday, Upper Trans Y led a liturgy to celebrate the end of the Liturgical year. We celebrated the feast of Christ the King, which is a perfect way to reflect and celebrate on the past year before we enter the season of advent. The children encouraged us all to consider what we had allowed to rule our hearts this year and consider if this is something we need to change ahead of the start of the new liturgical year. We were asked to think about how we can ensure that Jesus is the king of our hearts going forward. We were also treated to a beautiful rendition of Graham Kendrick’s song Make Way.

Upper Trans School Sleepover

On Wednesday, Upper Trans spent the night at school during their very exciting school sleepover. Wednesday morning started with an introduction to the magical world of the Harry Potter movies, as the children gathered in one classroom to watch the start of the Philosopher's stone. After an early lunch, the children and teachers were then off to Watford to enjoy looking behind the scenes of the movies at the Harry Potter Studio Tour.

The children started with a movie Maths workshop, where they were shown how important Maths is within the film industry. They were then able to see some exclusive props including Hagrid’s trousers and the fake head worn by Hagrid’s stunt double! This lead to some brilliant learning about the use of scale factors to make Hagrid look half giant compared to the rest of the cast. The children were then helped to design their own prop for the movie and to scale it down for Hagrid’s use.

After the workshop, it was on to the tour itself. The children loved being able to see the actual sets from the movies and the costumes worn by the actors. Highlights included stepping aboard the Hogwarts express, pulling up Mandrakes in herbology and seeing the scale model of Hogwarts.

At 8pm, it was back on the bus to school to get ready for a sleepover in the school hall. On arrival back at school, the children were welcomed home with a delivery of pizza, which they ate while watching Harry Potter of course!

After a good night's sleep, the activities started again on Thursday with the designing of potions that will be brewed next week. The two days were capped off by a fantastic visit from our friends at Feathers and Fur Falconry Centre, who brought in four owls for the children to meet.

They met with a barn owl, a tawny owl, a Eurasian eagle owl and of course a snowy owl just like Hedwig! The impressive flight of barn owl and the expressive eyebrows of Norman the eagle owl were a brilliant way to end the children’s two day experience!

A very special thank you!

We are absolutely thrilled to announce that our school has received a stunning Christmas tree, generously donated by the wonderful Robinson family!

This beautiful addition will not only brighten our beautiful atrium but will also fill our hearts with the festive spirit. It is acts of kindness such as this that truly embody the sense of community we cherish at St Bernard's Prep.

A massive thank you to the Robinson's for bringing joy and cheer to our school this Christmas season! We can't wait to decorate it together and create some magical memories.

As the weekend approaches, I can’t help but feel excited for the magical performances ahead! Next week, our EYFS children will take to the stage for their nativity play, and we can't wait to see all their hard work come to life.

Alongside the nativity, we have a plethora of festive activities planned and of course, plenty of learning time too. Let us cherish these special moments as we celebrate the spirit of the season together!

Wishing you all a delightful weekend, and we look forward to seeing you next week!
