Dear Parents,

We have certainly kicked off the term with a vibrant and joyful beginning. We welcomed the children back and started with a moment of reflection on the passing of the Pope, honouring his wisdom and compassion. On Friday, our School’s Got Talent concert filled the hall with excitement and pride, echoing Pope Francis’s message to recognise and celebrate our unique talents. We were truly amazed by the extraordinary performances from all the children who participated.

This week offered adventure and exploration for our upper year groups. Year 5 embarked on a fantastic camping retreat at Penshurst Place, engaging in hands-on activities such as whittling pencils, learning first aid, and outdoor cooking. Meanwhile, Year 4 have just returned from their residential trip at Longridge Activity Centre, where they had a wonderful time with climbing, crate stacking, aero ball, and laser tag.

Finally, we wrapped up the week with the entire school joyfully participating in Maypole dancing, a colourful and spirited ancient tradition.

May Procession

This morning, we gathered to honour the cherished tradition of our May Procession. Lower Trans took the lead in the service, establishing a respectful atmosphere by emphasising the significance of Mary as our Heavenly Mother. The children shared insights about Mary's life, how she was chosen to be the Mother of Jesus, her unwavering faith, and the many ways she responded with love and trust in God. They then recited the Memorare, a heartfelt prayer seeking Mary’s intercession and care.

The procession started in the hall and continued toward the Grotto, with all the children carrying flowers as symbols of love, pausing at stations to reflect. Once gathered around the statue of Mary, they gently placed their floral tributes at her feet. It was a truly beautiful service, and the Lower Trans class led it wonderfully.

UKMT

This week, our Year 6 children took part in the national UKMT Primary Maths Challenge—an exciting opportunity to stretch their problem-solving skills and apply mathematical thinking in new and challenging ways. The competition encourages logical reasoning and creative approaches to maths, and we are incredibly proud of all the pupils for taking part with such focus and enthusiasm. Well done, Year 6!

Achievements

Last Sunday, Anya and Jannah (Y5) proudly represented Berkshire in the U10 Girls South Central Hockey Tournament. Competing at this level is a fantastic achievement, and although the team narrowly missed out in a tense penalty shoot-out, finishing 6th overall, we are so proud of her dedication, skill, and team spirit. Well done, Anya—you represented your county brilliantly!

Wellbeing Wisdom for the Bank Holiday

Nature Walk or Scavenger Hunt
Head to a local park, forest, or nature reserve and enjoy a mindful walk together. You can create a simple scavenger hunt for children—looking for things like a feather, pine cone, or something yellow!

Family Picnic
Pack some favourite snacks, a blanket, and head outdoors. Take turns choosing a picnic game, like charades, cards, or “I Spy.”

Gratitude Jar or Journal
Encourage each family member to write down something they’re thankful for and share it at dinner or bedtime. It helps build positivity and emotional resilience.

Try Family Yoga or Stretching
There are plenty of short family-friendly yoga videos online. It’s calming and a great way to move your body together.

Visit a Local Museum or Heritage Site
Many places offer child-friendly exhibitions or trails. It is both educational and a nice change of scenery.

DIY Spa Day
Have a relaxing at-home spa—face masks, warm foot baths, calming music, and some quiet time can help everyone unwind.

Wishing you all a lovely Bank Holiday weekend and I hope you enjoy the beautiful sunshine.
