Dear Parents,

This week began with a beautiful Welcome Mass on the school field with Father Kevin,  and finished with me awarding the Year 6 Responsibilities today.  It's wonderful to welcome the whole school back with a blessing, and we were able to record the the Mass and share it with each form group in their classrooms.

I always enjoy announcing the Year 6 Responsibilities.  I remember many of them arriving for their first day at school in the nursery, and to see the young people they have grown into during their time at St Bernard's Prep is always a reason to celebrate. Congratulations to all our new House Captains and Subject Monitors. I know you'll all do a terrific job and represent St Bernard's Prep well in everything you do.

Well done to all the Class Monitors too. You can find a list of everyone on the school website here - Year 6 Responsibilities and Class Monitors.

Music exams

Congratulations to Esha Bhakri, Year 4, for passing her Piano Prep test exam and Amaya Patel, Year 6, for gaining her Grade 4 piano.

Can any pupil who have passed an instrumental exam since March 2020 please inform Ms Johnson.

Berkshire Young Singer 2020 finalist

Congratulations to Devam Kumarswami in Year 5 who is in the Top 10  Berkshire Young Singers 2020. He has been chosen from over 400 under 12 children in Berkshire to sing in the final on Sunday October 3rd at Windsor Old Court. The finals will be streamed live online from Windsor Festival. Good Luck Devam!

Prep

Prep have had another very interesting week. They have pretended to be  a superhero. They have practised using the pronoun 'I' as a capital letter and have described all their superhero powers. We have also had great fun using Numicon to improve our understanding of Place Value.

I am a superhero. I can climb trees. I am brave. I can fly. I have magic. I have red boots. I am strong. I sprinkle dust. I have a golden dress. I am powerful. I am invisible.

Nursery

Our youngest pupils continue to settle into school life well. This week in Nursery they have been learning about colours. The children have enjoyed colour sorting, making their own colour wheels and exploring coloured rice play.

Our R.E topic is ‘Myself’. Throughout the week the children have been creating themselves using a variety of materials. In our lesson today we looked at pictures of ourselves and our names, learning the importance of our names and why god loves us.

Reporting Absences

With the increasing number of COVID cases in schools within our local area we are revising our absence procedures. Please note all absence must be reported via the ParentMail in future. The easiest way to do this is via the App, under Notify Absence - please see accompanying picture.

You will need to enter a reason, duration and then add a message with the full details. The email address will no longer be in use. You may still call into the office if you wish to provide further details, but you must complete the absence via ParentMail first. Thank you so much.

Have a lovely weekend.

Yours Sincerley
