Newsletter Friday 25th September

Dear Parents,

The drop in temperature has left us feeling very autumnal in school. We're now well into the advent term and the children are taking all the new changes in their stride. We've had a great week, which included a welcome from the Bishop and a blessing from Father Kevin, coordinated by Miss Grogan,  a number of certificates awarded for various accomplishments, the results of the Headmaster's Challenge and lots more besides.

Headmaster's Challenge

Last term's Headmaster's Challenge asked the children to capture 'Life After Lockdown' in a photograph. The entries were of a really high standard and we received some very thought provoking pictures. We will be posting entries on our social media channels throughout the upcoming week, so follow us on Instagram, Twitter or Facebook to see some of the work produced by our pupils (and some staff!) @stbernardsprep.

Year 4 Science

Year 4 are going to be dazzling us with their pearly whites after exploring the importance of oral hygiene in science. Using disclosing tablets to see plaque and timing how long they need to thoroughly clean their teeth has been a great practical experiment.

Exercising bodies and brains

Year 5 burnt off energy on World Fitness Day and were presented with their certificates from The First Maths Challenge, in which they competed in June. Congratulations to Satinderpal, Jayan,Aarush, Joran, Shubhay and Vihaan for achieving full marks.

Wellbeing

Wayne Dixon from Christian Connections in Schools did a presentation to the Year 6s over Zoom on New Beginnings, which was a great success.  The last six months has been an unsettling time and so ensuring the security and happiness of our pupils is more important than ever. We are using our usual enrichment time to focus on the children's wellbeing, to discuss anxieties and address concerns.
