Newsletter Friday 19th March

Dear Parents,

It has been another great week in school, packed with fun and learning. We have reached the end of the assessments that have been carried out throughout the school over the last couple of weeks, and we are really encouraged by the results. These assessments have shown us that the efforts with remote teaching and learning have been rewarded and have enabled us to identify the areas of learning that need attention.  It's a great position to be in and sets us up well for the summer term.

In this morning's assembly Mr B announced the winner of our Mini-Olympics and also shared with us our convincing win over St Benedict's, who were also taking part in the events. Well done St Bernard's Prep!

Finally I'd like to say a warm welcome to Mrs Kimberley, who has returned from her maternity leave.

Headmaster's Challenge

We have been enjoying the illustrations and messages of Charlie Macksey's characters The boy, the mole, the fox and the horse this term in our school assemblies. As this term's Headmaster's Challenge we're asking the children to add to the adventures of these four friends by coming up with their own message and illustration.

Whole School Mini-Olympics

Last week we held our Mini Olympics to welcome back all the children after what seemed to be a rather lengthy lockdown. This was much needed exercise that the children so longed for, but even more fun with all the children enthusiastically taking part.

Our Early Years children all took part in individual and team activities and demonstrated some outstanding skills and all round agility. Activities included running, jumping and rolling,  balancing, eggs and spoons, hoop skipping, basketball bounces/shots and target throwing.  Well done to all those children for a wonderful effort and great participation!

Our children in Years 1 – 6 found themselves participating in a more competitive structure with it being an inter-house Olympics. All the children’s scores were collated and in the end we were able to place the houses in overall positions.

Congratulations to the children in the winning houses in each of the year groups.

Very well done to LUKE for winning the overall competition and therefore also being the winners of the inter-house shield for this term.

Year 1 Winners:  Mark

Year 2 Winners:  John

Pi Off

To celebrate Pi Day, Bobby and Ria had a Pi off which entailed reciting from memory Pi to more than 50 decimal places! Incredible. Well done Bobby and Ria.

"It was very fun and I really enjoyed the experience. It was also very challenging at the same time." Ria

"I enjoyed the challenge but it was very tense and I ended up forgetting what I had learnt!" Bobby

Chaplaincy Display

The whole school was asked to make a contribution to our Chaplaincy display and the children produced some beautiful work.

Thank you to all the children who have worked so well to make our Lent displays around school so lovely.

Bobby's Books

Hello year 1!

I think that you will like Lost and Found by an author called Oliver Jeffers. I think that you will love the amazing pictures. I hope you enjoy reading this book, because I definitely did. Have fun.

Bobby, Chief Librarian

School Uniform

We have made some improvements to the school uniform with girls jumpers replacing cardigans and new PE kit for years 1-6 to include technical fabrics and school branding. While these new items aren't compulsory until September 2022, they are now available to buy from Goyals. It would be lovely to see the children in the new sports kits when inter-school competitions begin again.

Have a wonderful Easter break.

Yours sincerely,

Mr N Cheesman
