Dear Parents,

This morning Year 3 put on a wonderful assembly about the importance of Community. They put on a very professional performance, talking clearly, singing beautifully and exuding confidence.  A sense of Community is valued and nurtured at St Bernard's Prep, not just amongst the children, but the parents and staff too. It is a wonderful thing to be part of a Community and to celebrate and support each other.

Reflection garden

We are developing a Reflection Garden in the grounds of the school. An area of tranquillity where people can spend time to remember people or to have some quiet time. A huge thank you to Pinewood Nurseries who are donating some plants and flowers for the garden. The children have written some beautiful poetry and prayers, which will be made into a book, and painted some pebbles for the garden.  We will share more pictures with you as the garden comes into bloom.

Open Week and Stay & Play

As Covid-related restrictions continue to ease, we are delighted to be able to start showing prospective parents around St Bernard's Prep again. We are hosting an Open Week 17th -21st May for individual appointments and a Stay & Play on Saturday 22nd May in our Early Years department. If you know anyone who is looking to apply for a school place please do make them aware of these upcoming events.  If you could share the adverts on social media with your friends and family, that would be great. Thank you.

French

This week the Year 6 children have been working on adjective agreement (masculine, feminine and plural). They produced some excellent work when asked to write a short paragraph about themselves or someone, using adjectives and intensifiers. They also did a reading and comprehension test and two listening tests.

While Mlle Miller was really impressed with the standard of work, there was one person who stood out.  This week Jay (Remove W) is awarded the certificate for a great improvement in French and getting 100% in his writing test. Magnifique Jay!

Academic Excellence

A huge congratulations to Trans G who achieved the highest score in school in Friday’s Times Tables competition, special mention to Oscar- ranked our most valuable player, and well ahead on the leader board. In Science Year 5 have been getting practical with paper aeroplanes, water tanks and parachutes learning about forces.  Our enthusiastic Year 2s have been learning about the classification of plants and animals and Year 1 have produced some incredible written work on the subject of the Rainforest.

Have a lovely weekend.

Yours sincerely,

Mr N Cheesman
