Newsletter 17th September 2021

Dear Parents,

The children have been hard at work all week, undertaking their baseline testing. For all our new families, this is how we begin every new academic year so that we can chart the children's progress and support their learning. I look forward to watching the children develop and achieve throughout the year.

As a committed logophile (lover of words) I always enjoy sharing new vocabulary and phrases. This week I was goshbustified to announce our new Head Boy and Head Girl, and their deputies. I know they will all be marvellous representatives of St Bernard's Preparatory.

Latin Word of the Week

Melior: Better

Melius est flecti qualm frangi: It is better to bend than to break.

Word of the Week

Goshbustified - Excessively pleased

I was goshbustified to announce our new Head Boy, Head Girl and their deputies in today's assembly

Congratulations to (L-R) Sai Makkar, Deputy Head Boy, Aarush Garg, Head Boy, Mannat Chadha, Head Girl and Marley Sangster, Deputy Head Girl.

School Improvements

Break times have been given an injection of colour with the new playground markings, thanks to the FOPS team, which have proved very popular with the children.

Early Years

This week in Nursery we have been learning about colours. We have enjoyed various sorting and creative activities as well as a colour hunt in our classroom and outdoor area. As part of our RE topic ‘Myself’ Early Years have been learning the importance of ourselves and our name. Nursery looked at their own photos and names and created ‘Ourselves’ for our display.

Religion Through Art

In Year 1 we looked at pieces of art and discussed how this painting made us feel.

‘It feels like I am with the Holy family’ Bella.

Street Dance

We still have places for Friday's after school club, Street Dance. Do let the office know if you would like to sign up.

Weekend Talking Point

At St Bernard's Prep, we like to explore ideas and challenge our children to think and reflect. It's a great exercise and one that often produces some interesting comments from the children.  This week I've been wondering,

Do ideas come from inside or outside your head?

Let us know if your children have any thoughts on the subject.

Have a great weekend.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs A Verma
