Headteacher's Welcome

Welcome to St. Bernard’s Preparatory School, the leading prep school in Berkshire.  As you read this, you will begin to appreciate the unique ethos of our school.  We are a Catholic school, teaching the Catholic faith and living out the Gospel values which are shared by all faiths and are the foundation of all our relationships and the daily life of our school.  We welcome and embrace children of all faiths and we recognise and celebrate our similarities and differences, developing mutual respect, understanding and tolerance.

We recognise the value and uniqueness of each individual, both child and adult.  We celebrate the talents and gifts of each child and enable them to develop to their full potential spiritually, morally, academically, socially and physically.  Our children are happy, courteous, confident, articulate young citizens, committed to the ideal of service to others.

We work in partnership with parents, recognising that they are the first and best educators of their child.  We consider ourselves to be very privileged that parents have entrusted us with the care and education of their child. We ensure that parents are kept fully informed of their child’s progress.

We are committed to offering a broad, balanced, creative and challenging curriculum, enriched by experiences and opportunities, which enhance and consolidate the learning process.  Small class sizes enable our team of highly qualified, caring, committed and enthusiastic teachers to be responsive to the needs of the individual child ensuring continuity and progression for all our children.  We have developed a wide and varied range of after-school activities which broaden the curriculum and enrich the children’s lives.  Children are encouraged to develop new skills.

We are proud of our reputation as a school with a strong ethos and nurturing pastoral care coupled with academic excellence reflected in consistently outstanding results in local and national tests.

Our school motto ‘Dieu Mon Abri’, meaning ‘God is my Shelter’, is an inspiring reminder of God’s love for each one of us.  The three swords represent ‘Love, Work and Prayer’ which underpin and permeate the life of our school.

I extend an invitation to you to visit our school where you are guaranteed a warm welcome.  Our children will take you on a tour of our school and I will be delighted to answer any questions you may have.

God bless you
