Design and Technology

Design and Technology brings together the mental and physical skills needed to plan and make artefacts relevant to the school curriculum. Thinking, visualising, drawing, making, problem identifying and solving, and, decision-making are all involved in the realisation of a project. The programmes of study are planned to be both in line with current National Curriculum requirements in terms of knowledge, skills and understanding, and, to maximise continuity and progression so that the pupils can develop their confidence to become independent problem solvers.

To quote from a letter written by Sir James Dyson,

“Design and Technology is unique and it challenges both hands and minds.  It embeds…. research, independence, technology, communications, leadership, teamwork and problem solving. Design Technology is not today’s woodwork; it breeds new products and new business.  It is both academic and practical, and develops an identity and a capability for innovation.”
